The invention relates to a safety apparatus, in particular for motor vehicles with a safety belt, a spool for winding up and unwinding the belt and movable between a blocked position and a released position and a load limiting device which, in the blocked position, permits a defined rotation of the spool, wherein the load limiting device includes two load limiting sections spaced apart along the spool axis via which a spool reel carrying the belt winding is in each case coupled to a blocking portion.
