The extrusion (1) of an elastomer or plastomer material without reinforcement is made with additional coextruded elastomer or plastomer beads (6) that are cooled after extrusion or after a subsequent heating stage such as vulcanisation. The beads are located on the outer surface of the main extrusion and they are made of a material that shrinks on cooling to produce a required shape, e.g. to give localised variations in thickness or surface protuberances. The main extrusion can have a U-shaped or omega cross-section, with the additional beads applied to at least part of its two branches, or along lines connecting it to a second, tubular extrusion (3).
