Sprung suspension of a rigid axle to the chassis of a vehicle, especially a lorry or a bus
DRIVE
September 7, 2005
The suspension system for a rigid axle (2) for lorries or buses comprises a leaf spring (3) which is fastened at one end (4) to jaws (5) mounted on the chassis (1). The opposite end (8) is attached to a second set of jaws (7') pivoted on a mounting (9) which is also attached to the chassis. A stop (18) on the base of the pivoted jaws catches the end of the spring if it fractures near the opposite end (4).
