Control system and method for motor vehicles

The present invention relates to a control system and to a control method which are applied to a motor vehicle including an internal combustion engine and a motor connected to an output shaft of the internal combustion engine, and which is operable to perform an automatic start/stop control of the internal combustion engine. The control system controls the internal combustion engine so as to run at an idle speed, using a first control amount until a predetermined time passes after the internal combustion engine has started, and using a second control amount that is different from the first control amount, after the predetermined time has passed.
