Linear tracking column module

A collapsible steering assembly ( 10 ) features a guide bracket ( 12 ) for attachment to a vehicle. A steering mechanism ( 14 ) is interconnected with the guide bracket (12) by a steering mechanism support (17) . A plurality of guide rods ( 18 ) are arranged about a common collapse axis ( 20 ) and extend in non-parallel relationship to a longitudinal axis (16) of the steering mechanism (14) . The guide rods ( 18 ) support the steering mechanism ( 14 ) for axial movement along the collapse axis ( 20 ) in response to a predetermined collapse force on the steering mechanism ( 14 ).
