Linear tracking knee bolster assembly

A collapsible steering assembly (10) features a guide bracket (12) for attachment to a vehicle. A steering mechanism (14) is interconnected with the guide bracket (12) by a steering mechanism support (17). A plurality of guide rods (18) are arranged about a common collapse axis (20) and extend in non-parallel relationship to a longitudinal axis (16) of the steering mechanism (14). The guide rods (18) support the steering mechanism (14) for axial movement along the collapse axis (20) in response to a predetermined collapse force on the steering mechanism (14).
