Vehicle front end

The floor (4) for the engine compartment of a vehicle extends forwards to the position of the bumper. It has longitudinal reinforcing ribs (6). The combination of the forward extension and increased rigidity allow it to tip a pedestrian in a collision over the bonnet, so that damage to the lower legs is minimized.
