The invention aims to provide an improved internal combustion engine that is capable of realizing high power while having an increased fuel efficiency. Therefore, the invention provides that an internal combustion engine comprises a piston which includes a head section, at least one piston pin inserting section that is provided in a predetermined area of a rear surface of the head section and in which a piston pin is inserted, and at least one rib that is provided to connect the rear surface of the head section and the piston pin inserting section.
