The method for warning a driver about a collision hazard involves measurement of at least the distance from a vehicle proceeding in front, and calculation by a computer unit of a required deceleration for collision avoidance. A warning signal is issued when this deceleration (with driver's response time taken into account) exceeds a specified value.
