Arrangement for the control of a suspension arm using piezoceramic elements at the interior of the arm

DRIVE June 15, 2005
Source
The device is for alteration of steering and/or camber angle variations of a wheel by small amounts. The wheel suspension is part of a motor vehicle chassis. The device has a control unit with an active component formed by a piezo ceramic part (20), which is excited by a control signal. The ceramic part is of an elastomer bearing (10) with bearing journal (12) for the hinge point of a wheel steering arm, to move the journal at right angles to the elastomer bearing. The bearing is formed as a kidney bearing and has an elastomer core (13) and several outer and inner sleeves (14,16). The control unit has acceleration measures, integration stages, and thresh hold value switches, to generate control signals for the piezo ceramic part.
