Air conditioning system for a vehicle with engine-independent cooling mode

A generator is connected to an auxiliary power supply which operates the generator when a motor vehicle engine is at standstill. The generator is alternately operated as an electric motor in the event that an external power supply is available. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a method for operating motor vehicle air conditioning system; and (B) a motor vehicle having air conditioning system.
