Method for selecting and processing traffic information

Method for selection and preparation of traffic information for a vehicle driver in which a route to a target is determined based on the vehicle's position and direction and available digital map data. If traffic information is received about a possible obstruction or traffic jam the system determines if the obstruction lies on the planned route and, if so, determines a new route from the vehicle's current position or a position in front of its current position to an intermediate target position after the obstruction, where the new route avoids the obstruction.
