Protection device for a luggage compartment of a vehicle

The protective device for a load space (1) of a vehicle has at least two relatively spaced apart functional elements (6a,6b) to which is connected a flexible fabric web (7) which has two sections (7a,7b) adjoining one another in the extension direction and with different light penetrability. Means are provided for the position sensing (8a) of the fabric web, and control means depending upon known positions control at least one functional element so that the first web section with less light penetrability is pulled out in a first, horizontally extended protecting position, and the second web section of greater light penetrability is pulled out in a second vertically extended protecting position.
