The functional device for the boot of a motor vehicle has a housing unit in which is fitted a flexible material element (2) which is movable between a compactly stowed neutral position and an extended functioning position drawn down to the floor of the vehicle. At least one additional flexible material element (7) is located at a distance below the first material element, and in a functioning position is orientated in a plane parallel to the functioning position of the first material element. The additional material element is stowed in a neutral position compactly in the region of the housing unit (1).
