Process for assessing the transverse acceleration of a vehicle trailer, especially for use in articulated lorries within an electronic stability control or a rollover stability control device, comprises using a calculation to determine a filtered transverse acceleration value (aqgef) of a semitrailer from at least the variables for a transverse acceleration (aqZug) measured in the articulated lorry and for a measured vehicle speed (V), and using the resulting value in the stability control or rollover stability control device instead of a measured value of the transverse acceleration of the semitrailer.
