The method involves receiving a signal (A) indicating that the side door of the motor vehicle should be opened; receiving a signal (B) indicating that with the open side door, the roof wing should be opened; receiving a signal (C) which is generated when the side door is opened; and generating a signal (D) to control a drive (10) to open the roof wing, when at least signals A,B, and C are present.
