The vibration damper (1) has a tubular body containing a moving piston rod (5). The tubular body carries a connecting element which passes at least partly round it. The tubular body (7) has several longitudinal sectors of different diameters. The greatest diameter of the tubular body is in the contact region with the connecting element.
