System and method for calculating and/or for determining routes

The route planning system (100) provides a route for an automobile journey between a starting point and a target point or target region using supplied road traffic information, at least a section of the planned route evaluated using at least one criteria and/or weighting parameter, provided in dependence on a temporary obstacle along the route, e.g. an over-wide load, or congestion caused by traffic control lights.
