The engine has a crankshaft (13), and cam shaft and balancer shaft, placed in a vertical direction, where the crankshaft is driven by a drive shaft. A chain mechanism is reeved horizontally around upper ends of the shafts. A chain chamber accommodating the mechanism has oil injecting sections for injecting oil toward the mechanism. The oil injecting sections are mounted at a location closer to the shafts.
