The device has at least one bearer bar (1) attached by means of two clamp elements (2,3) engaging the edge regions of the roof. At least one clamp element can be moved relative to the bearer bar and both interact via a traction element (6). A clamping arrangement (13,14) interacts directly with the movable clamp element and via a reduction gear (9,10) with the traction element, which is protected against a wind noise generating wind flow by the bearer bar.
