The seal (5) is prepared by injection molding elastomeric material on to a carrier (4), which is preferably made of metal. The carrier (4) is then joined to the end section (2) of the plastic engine component while that component is injection molded. Alternatively the carrier (4) can be attached to a component with adhesive or mechanically, e.g. with bolts. Any heat treatment is carried out on the elastomer (5) and carrier (4) only. An independent claim is also included for a sealing assembly comprising an elastomeric seal (5) on a carrier (4) made by the described method. The carrier (4) can be a flat plate, a right-angle or U-shaped profile and it can have interlocking tongues for attachment during injection molding.
