Navigation apparatus for destination guidance of a vehicle

A display (10) displays the surroundings of the instantaneous position of the vehicle. A control device (12) automatically sets the display scale and dimensions of the display, based on the instantaneous speed of the vehicle and on stored surroundings data. At low speeds, a three-dimensional representation is used, while at higher speeds, a two-dimensional representation is displayed.
