Drive apparatus

A drive unit for an all-wheel drive motor vehicle comprises a between-axes differential (16) to distribute torque between front and rear wheel axle differentials, the higher torque being applied to the shorter, rear, drive (36,38). There is a slip-controlled plate coupling (46) which varies the torque distribution from the between-axles differential.
