Access control system

Access control system (10) especially for vehicles has an access side electronic control unit (12) and at least two user side identification units (14). Authentication signals are exchanged between the units. The identification units send their appropriate authentication response signal (18) in response to an authentication request signal (16). The response signals are sent in different time windows according to the rules stored in the identification units.
