Exterior rear view mirror for a motor vehicle

The mirror (12) has a housing (15) for the mirror glass (14) with a support arm (20) on a carrier device (21). The carrier device is supported on a part of the vehicle. The carrier device and the housing are produced separately from each other. The free ends (23) of the support arm of the carrier device project into the housing and are connected to housing holding brackets.
