Optical sensor

The sensor (4) has at least one transmitter (14) and receiver (16,20,22). A windscreen lies in the measurement path between them and influences the light propagation between them. A receiver output signal, which is used to drive the windscreen wipers, changes if the windscreen becomes coated, especially moistened by precipitation. At least one receiver receives light at the ambient intensity and is used to drive a vehicle lighting system.
