The system has pneumatic springs associated with individual wheels with air chambers whose volumes are controlled. A pneumatic spring unit (2) is formed by first and second pneumatic springs (33,34), a common cylindrical housing (3) and a dual action piston (4) with air chambers (7,8) on either side associated with the pneumatic springs, whose volumes are adjustable in a coupled manner by controlled piston displacement.
