Non-aqueous electrolyte battery has a positive electrode, a negative electrode formed by lithium or a material which can occlude and release lithium, and a non-aqueous electrolyte containing a support salt and a phosphazene derivative. Independent claims are also included for (1) an electrode stabilizing agent comprising a phosphazene derivative having groups including multiple bonds other than P-N multiple bonds; (2) the phosphazene derivative of formula (PNX 2) n(III) X : alkoxy, phenoxy and/or F; n : 3-14, where >=1 X = F when n = 3 and the rest are alkoxy or phenoxy, and where >=1 X is F when n = 4-14. ; and (3) the manufacture of the phosphazene derivative (III) by reacting an alkali metal alkoxide or phenoxide and a phosphazene derivative of formula (PNF 2) n(IV).
