Pneumatic apparatus for increasing the safety and for reducing the vulnerability of munitions

The protector, for use in a rocket motor (1) or munition with a casing (10) containing an explosive material such as solid propergol, consists of an inflatable bag (2) made from a supple or semi-rigid impermeable material which, when inflated. at least partially fills the empty spaces inside the casing. In a rocket motor the bag is used to fill the central channel between the igniter (12) and outlet nozzle (13), isolating the solid propergol from the outside atmosphere, while in a munition it is inserted between the explosive charge and nose of the warhead. The bag can be inflated manually or automatically in response to an event.
