The roller for a vehicle safety belt comprises a belt spool (1) on which a belt force (F) engages and which is firmly connected with a stop toothed arrangement (2) with back cut. Via a spring (4) a stop toothed arrangement (3) without back cut is sprung-engaged against the stop tooth arrangement with back cut. Through the spring effect, the stop tooth arrangement without back cut is hastened to the stop tooth arrangement with back cut in the direction of the force (F) acting in a stop process on the belt spool. Two pivotably located stop catches (5,6) are provided, the second of which has a back cut, whilst the first does not. They pivot inwards after release of the stop process to engage in the stop teeth arrangements. To unlock the stop system, the catches are provided outwards.
