Airbag device and airbag module for a vehicle occupant protection system

The airbag has a protective cover (22) fastened on a predetermined place and partially encloses the airbag folded up into a packet. The protective cover is a film or spun fibrous material sewn to the airbag. The protective cover by one end is fastened to the airbag and on the opposite other end has an adhesive surface.
