The vehicle lights are controlled by especially photodiodes which may have lenses so that they may receive light over a wide radius. The global sensor (10) at the front of the vehicle may have two directional sensors (14) receiving light from the sides. The sensors and the vehicle lights (20) are connected to a control circuit (18). An electrical bus line carries signals (S2) from sensors (16) at the rear of the vehicle.
