Gas generator

The gas generator has an elongated outer housing (10), and at least three stages (12,14,16) activated independently of each other and each with an igniter unit (32,34,36). The igniter units are fitted on the outer housing on the side and orientated radially to it. The igniter units are identical in construction and uniformly aligned in relation to the outer casing. Each igniter has a rear-side electrical contact (48) on the side furthest from the outer housing.
