The safety device has a cover sheet (3) extracted from a stowed position within a storage cassette for movement into a working position covering the trunk space (1), its movement guided via side guides provided by sides (2) of the trunk space and effected via respective drive units (6) at either side. The drive units are coupled together via a mechanical synchronization drive (7).
