Safety steering column, safety system for a vehicle, vehicle equipped with a safety system and safety method

The steering column (1) is axially adjustable in the event of a crash by pyrotechnical withdrawal devices (102) that move it away from the occupants. The pyrotechnically operated withdrawal devices contain at least one pyrotechnically operated cylinder to that displaces the steering column in its axial direction. The cylinder can rotate the inhibitor axle of the convenience adjuster via a toothed rod controlled by cams to open the adjustment catch.
