The fuel system (112) has a high pressure fuel pump(122) mechanically driven by the internal combustion engine (114) and an auxiliary high pressure fuel pump (124). The high pressure fuel pumps deliver fuel into a common fuel line (142). The mechanically driven high pressure fuel pump and the auxiliary high pressure fuel pump form a unit (120). AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine and a fuel system.
