Method for destination input in a navigation apparatus and navigation data base

Method for input of a navigation destination to a motor vehicle navigation system, whereby a destination name is input to the system and if a number of destinations with the same name are found, complementary information relating to the destinations is output to enable selection of the correct destination. The complementary information includes direction and or distance details to a near or next clearly defined location. The invention also relates to a corresponding navigation database.
