Motor vehicle navigation system and method for selecting a designation

Motor vehicle navigation system comprises a computer unit and input and display units. A storage unit contains a database of locations and street names. The display and input units are used for character input and selection of listed names, with name suggestions listed based on the already input characters. The displayed suggestions are selected from the database so that they differ in the first character subsequent to the input characters. An Independent claim is made for a method for selecting a target location with a vehicle navigation system in which a character-based target selection system is used.
