Method for controlling a levelling system

The method involves regulating the distance between the structure of a vehicle and at least one axle to a desired level using at least one height sensor (16-22) that measures the distance between the vehicle structure and the axle. It involves determining the direction of travel of the motor vehicle and correcting the measurement signal of each height sensor in the direction of the desired level when the vehicle is reversing.
