A process for producing a weakening line with a low opening resistance, in an air bag cover, comprises forming a row of blind holes (4) in a material composed of a carrier layer (1), a foam layer (2) and a decorative layer (3). A process for producing a weakening line with a low opening resistance, in an air bag cover, comprises forming a row of blind holes (4) in a material composed of a carrier layer (1), a foam layer (2) and a decorative layer (3). A first group of blind holes only penetrates the carrier layer material. a second group of blind holes extends through the carrier material into the foam layer, while a third group extends into the decorative layer. The second group extends over a greater length than the first, and the blind holes overlap. The blind holes are formed using a pulsed laser and there are more deeper blind holes (4.2) than flat blind holes (4.2).
