A bumper for a vehicle, comprises a stiff carrier and an elastic covering. Lights are located in pockets in the covering, and the lights have a transparent cover element. Each cover element (13) has a protruding section (14) which is raised above the covering (8), and the cover element is supported by a carrier structure (7) for a 30 degree crash. The transparent cover and the protruding section are made of an impact resistant plastic, eg polycarbonate. The protruding section is located on an edge region (15).
