Velour-like pile articles and pile surface structures and methods of making

An elongated pile article having an elongated support strand having a thermoplastic outer surface and having a width and a height; which is arranged in a wound package, comprising: an overlapping, reversing helical array of said pile article where the helix angle is between plus or minus 10-30 degrees and the strand is facing outward and the base region of the filaments is facing inward and a substantial portion of the filaments on the two rows of the pile article extend outward in opposed directions from the strand substantially parallel to the package surface and with the strand facing outward throughout the package.
