The road vehicle (1) has a simplified frame structure (3) with a roll bar (13) at the rear with a channel or guide (21) for hinged side beams for the roof (15). The front and rear portions of the roof (17,19) have a flexible covering (16) and are stretched over hinged crossbeams (27,29,31). The longitudinal frames (23,25) at the sides of the roof are hinged together (30) in the middle and may slide down side members (33) to fold the roof. The longitudinal frames are bent double and the roof is stowed away behind the backrest (9) of the seat (7).
