The engine has a first valve control element (1) with a first valve actuator (3) for opening and closing the exhaust valves and a second valve control element (2) with a second valve actuator (4) exclusively for opening the inlet valves. The first valve control element is formed by a first camshaft and the second valve control element is formed by a second camshaft. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: a method of controlling an inventive device.
