Method and apparatus to determine the injection timing in an internal combustion engine

The method involves igniting the engine with a 360 degree crankshaft sensor offset on the same cylinders (1-4), detecting the primary side voltage, detecting combustion duration, evaluating spark duration, determining camshaft position from spark duration and a sensor, deriving the camshaft position by determining cylinder states and determining the first stroke in which injection and ignition occur in the relevant cylinder. An Independent claim is also included for a system for implementing the inventive method.
