The front bumper (54) has four distance sensors (66) connected via a communication line (78) to a decentralized control circuit (74) in the bumper. The rear bumper (56) also has four distance sensors (68) connected via a communication line to a decentralized control circuit (76) in the bumper. There are connections (82) to conductors (80) leading to a bus system (55), connected to a central computer (58). There are further connections (64) to warning horns (60) and a visual display of distance to obstacle (62).
