Air-cooled intake air cooler
DRIVE
January 29, 2003
The charging air cooler is completely of aluminum. It has an intake collection chamber (4) containing a charging air pre-cooler (10), which almost completely fills the large area of the collection chamber. This causes almost all of the charging air flow to pass the pre-cooler. The pre-cooler is soldered, and has flat tubes for coolant fluid and intermediate ribbed channels for the charging air. The channels have a depth of between 25 and 200mm. Each flat tube is followed by a corrugated rib heat exchanger (8) for the cooling air, which is soldered to the flat sides of the tubes.
