Vehicle interior monitoring device

The monitoring system works on infrared and/or ultrasound basis and has module (2) with transmitter and receiver, connected to an evaluator. The module is connected adjustable to a carrier part, so as to be moveable from a rest position mainly within the outer contours of the carrier, into an operating position. In this position, transmitter and receiver project over the carrier contours and face in monitoring direction. The module has a cover (8) for receiver and/or transmitter, it has an on/off switch, and is moved by a preferably electrical drive (16).
