The invention relates to a method for calibrating a system for measuring the yaw rate of a motor vehicle, wherein the system comprises a yaw rate sensor. To detect when a calibration can be performed, low-frequency components are filtered out from the signal of the yaw rate sensor and the filtered signal is monitored to determine whether it exceeds a predetermined amount within a predetermined time period (ta - tn). If the predetermined amount is not exceeded within the predetermined time period (ta - tn), the system is calibrated with the signal present at the output of the yaw rate sensor at that time (ta).
