Vehicle navigation system

A vehicle navigation system is provided. When route guidance for a vehicle to a destination is performed on the screen of a display unit (8) based on road data for route searching, whether or not the vehicle has entered a minor street or not is determined (step 4). When it is determined that the vehicle has entered a minor street, researching for a route to the destination is performed (step 6) by setting the point of entry into the minor street as a new starting point. The screen of the display unit (8) is divided into two screens, and a guidance route is displayed on one of the divided screens based on the result of the researching and road data for minor streets, and the minor street is displayed in a more enlarged form than on the other screen (step 7).
